    Historical notes

Roccabascerana is located on a hill, about 400 meters above sea level, overlooking the Corno valley.
Signs of settlement here go back to late Bronze Age. The name "Quascirana" (the original name of this village) was recorded for the first time in a papal bull of 971. The origins of Roccabascerana Castle are vague, it was probably built by the Normans.
The Castles was built on a hill top and was protected by sheer cliff faces. The Normans, Aragonese and Angevins fought over this strategic fortification for years.
The castle was therefore built as a fortress to protect the village from enemy raids. Heavily damaged by several earthquakes, only a quadrangular tower, or what is left of it and parts of the curtain walls survived to the present day.
